BURNABY, B.C. – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team (0-15, 0-7 GNAC) fell to Simon Fraser on Saturday by a final of 109-46.
How it Happened
The Nanooks jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after Pearle Green knocked down a three and Chozen Horn-Young connected on a two-point jumper. After briefly falling behind, Emily Freeman put the 'Nooks back in front with another three to give Alaska an 8-6 lead. However, three SFU triples without a Nanooks response saw their lead disappear. Tamai Mancuso answered with a jumper to pull the Nanooks back to within five, and after neither team scored for the next three minutes, a pair of Green free throws made it a three-point game. However, Simon Fraser ended the quarter on a 13-2 run, taking a 28-14 lead at the end of one. Alaska would score just seven points in the second quarter, with Green accounting for five with a three and a two, and the Nanooks found themselves trailing 44-21 heading into the locker room.
Green got the third started with two more makes from beyond the arc within the opening 1:03 of the quarter. Mancuso added four points, but the Nanooks were outscored 35-10 in the third, and they entered the final 10 minutes down 79-31. Green would add two more threes within the first three minutes of the fourth, giving her six triples on the day.
