Nanooks Take Down Seawolves in Front of a Packed Patty Center

FAIRBANKS – The Nanooks men's basketball team extended its winning streak over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves to four games on Saturday afternoon, securing a 91-76 win in front of 1,065 fans in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium to improve to 9-7, 4-3 GNAC.

How it Happened
The Nanooks got off to a hot start, going up 12-2 in the opening three and a half minutes thanks to three three-pointers from Mike Miller and another from Davis Crilly. Miller added his fourth three of the contest a minute later, but the Seawolves would make it a four-point game after a Cole Johnson three-pointer cut Alaska's lead to 15-11. Crilly and Tyriq Luke answered with two more makes from beyond the arc to give the Blue and Gold a double-digit lead at 23-12, and the Nanooks would maintain that margin for the next nine and a half minutes, with Luke adding a pair of layups during that stretch. The Seawolves would cut the lead to nine with three minutes left in the half, bringing Alaska's advantage down to 37-28. However, a Cortarius Mingo layup and four Miller free throws gave the 'Nooks their 10-point cushion back. Miller followed by throwing down a fastbreak dunk off his own steal to put Alaska ahead 45-30 with a minute left before the break. UAA would get a pair of free throws to end the half, sending the Nanooks into the locker room in front 45-32.

The Nanooks continued to connect from beyond the arc to start the second, as Crilly and Miller knocked down a pair of triples. Luke added a pair of baskets to go along with three free throws while O'Keith would connect on a three and a two over the next five minutes to give Alaska a 19-point lead, but UAA responded with a 10-0 run, making it a 64-55 game just past the halfway point of the second. The Seawolves would cut the lead down to eight with 7:49 remaining, but a Luke jumper reestablished Alaska's double-digit advantage, which they would not surrender for the remainder of the contest. Luke posted 11 points over the final 7:22 to give him 25 on the day.
