Nanooks Sweep Seattle Pacific and Extend Win Streak to Nine

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Nanooks volleyball team stayed hot on Saturday, Sept. 20 as they swept the Seattle Pacific Falcons (5-5, 0-2 GNAC) on the road. With the win, the Nanooks are 11-1, 2-0 GNAC. 

How it Happened
Alaska used a strong offensive attack to sweep the Falcons in game two of their GNAC schedule. In the first, the Nanooks more than doubled the SPU attack with 15 kills to the Falcons' seven. In the second, the Nanooks and Falcons both produced 14 kills, but Alaska only surrendered three errors while swinging .289. In the third, the Nanooks only got better. They posted a match-high 17 kills in the third and had only two errors while swinging .366 in the final set. 

Alaska never let SPU past 18 points in any set, winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 for their second-consecutive sweep. The Nanooks improve to 2-0 in GNAC play, their first 2-0 conference start since 2021. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Elena Guc and Peri Hoshock led the offensive attack for Alaska as they both ended with 10 kills. Guc finished with a .391 swing percentage, three digs, and one block. Hoshock posted a .400 hitting percentage, five digs, and a block. 
  • Cynphany Henderson and Kelli Wright both followed with eight kills each. Henderson swung .286 and added 18 assists and three digs. Wright added two digs and a block. 
  • Ainsley Smith led the way with 22 assists tonight. She finished with a double-double, posting 11 digs.
  • Tessa Onaga had a monster defensive game for the Nanooks, finishing with 26 digs (8.6/set). She added five assists and an ace. 
  • Haylee Lyons also had a strong game defensively, picking up 13 digs. She added four kills, an ace and a block. 
What's to Come
The Nanooks welcome Saint Martin's and Western Oregon next week. They face SMU on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and WOU on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
