Nanooks Volleyball Tagged to Finish T-3rd in GNAC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team collected 79 points in the 2025 GNAC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Nanooks tied Western Washington for third place in the 10-team conference poll.

Points were awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.

Central Washington topped the poll with 97 points and eight first-place votes, as coaches project the Wildcats to repeat as GNAC champions. CWU finished 2024 with an 18-7 overall record and a 16-2 mark in conference play, the only team to surpass 90 points in the poll. Simon Fraser followed in second with 84 points and one first-place vote after a 17-9, 13-5 GNAC campaign. The Red Leafs finished tied for second last season with Alaska.

The Nanooks and Vikings shared third in this year's preseason poll with 79 points each. Western Washington, who went 12-12 (11-7 GNAC) in 2024, earned the final first-place vote after finishing fourth in the standings.

Alaska enters 2025 looking to build on a historic 2024 season, when they matched their program record for wins (21) and went 21-7 overall, 13-5 GNAC. The Nanooks' .750 winning percentage marked the best in program history, surpassing the 1995 squad that went 21-13 under head coach Tim Brown.

Alaska Anchorage ranked fifth in the poll with 58 points following a 16-12 (10-8 GNAC) season and a tie for fifth place. Western Oregon (44) and Northwest Nazarene (39) followed in sixth and seventh. Seattle Pacific was picked eighth with 37 points, Saint Martin's ninth with 21, and Montana State Billings rounded out the poll in 10th with 10 points.
