ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Nanooks women's basketball team fell on the road to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday evening by a final score of 93-50.
How it Happened
After trailing early, the Nanooks established a 10-8 lead after an Emily Freeman three-ball put the 'Nooks in front. She knocked down another triple with 3:35 remaining in the opening quarter to give Alaska a three-point advantage at 13-10, but a 7-0 UAA run put the Seawolves back on top. Tristian Martin closed the quarter with another three-pointer to cut the deficit to one, and Alaska entered the second down 17-16.
Miranda Lomax started the scoring for the Nanooks in the second quarter with a jumper to make it a 19-18 contest. Destiny Reimers notched her first three of the night at the 4:12 mark of the second, cutting the deficit to four at 27-23. However, 10 unanswered Seawolves points put the hosts ahead 37-23. Taylor Pilot ended the run with a free throw, and Lomax added two more from the line, but UAA ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 48-26 lead into the halftime break.
The Seawolves continued their run with two layups to start the third before Pilot converted a three-point play. Freeman and Reimers notched back-to-back threes, and Martin scored the final six points of the quarter for the 'Nooks, but they trailed 73-41 entering the final 10 minutes.
The only points for the Nanooks over the first four minutes of the fourth came from the line, with Pilot and Bobbi Clark converting their free throws. Reimers would hit a layup at the six-minute mark, but that would be all the scoring for the Nanooks until a three from Martin with 22 seconds left.
