Reimers’ Double-Double Not Enough as Alaska Falls to Saint Martin’s

LACEY, Wash. - The Nanooks women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought contest on Thursday afternoon against the Saint Martin's Saints, falling 64-55. The loss moves them to 6-19, 1-16 GNAC.

How it Happened
The Nanooks fell behind early in the contest, trailing 10-3 at the 3.5-minute mark. Destiny Reimers cut into the deficit with a three and added a layup to make it a 12-9 ballgame. Amelia Brady knocked down another layup to put the 'Nooks within three before Reimers drained another three-ball to tie the game at 14 with 43 seconds left in the quarter. Saint Martin's would hit a layup on the following possession and take a 16-14 lead into the second.

Miranda Lomax started the scoring for the Nanooks in the second period, hitting a floater to make it a three-point game. Bobbi Clark answered an SMU layup with one of her own, but a 6-0 Saints run over the next 1:19 gave them a nine-point advantage with 5:54 remaining until the halftime break. Neither side would score for the next three minutes, with Lomax ending the scoring drought by knocking down a jumper. Brady followed by hitting a pair of layups to make it 29-24, but Saint Martin's ended the half scoring the last five points, including a buzzer-beater three from Jada Travis to send Alaska into the break down by 10.

Reimers and Brady started the third with consecutive buckets, making it a two-possession game. The two continued to provide the offense for the 'Nooks, scoring two more field goals to cut the deficit to five. The two sides traded the next four baskets before Lomax and Clark knocked down a pair of baskets to put the Nanooks within two at 42-40. However, the Saints ended the quarter with eight unanswered points, giving them a 10-point lead going into the final 10 minutes of action.

SMU continued their run to start the fourth, hitting a jumper out of the gate. Reimers and Brady ended the Saints' run with a pair of layups, and Reimers added a jumper to bring Alaska to within six. She answered a Saint Martin's layup by knocking one down herself, keeping the Nanooks within striking distance with just under half the quarter to play. Emily Freeman and Jayda Van Dyke answered two Saints jumpers by connecting on a three and a layup, respectively, to trim the deficit to five points. However, Alaska's offense would go cold, scoring just two more points for the remainder of the contest to drop a 64-55 decision.
