Nanooks Fall to Hawaii Pacific

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Nanooks men's basketball team (6-5, 1-1 GNAC) dropped its matchup against Hawaii Pacific on Friday evening, falling to the Sharks by a final of 70-62.

How it Happened
The Nanooks built an early 7-2 lead after Tyriq Luke posted five points in the opening minutes, but the Sharks knocked down two three-pointers to put them ahead by one. After being fouled on a three, Davis Crilly gave the Nanooks the lead with three free throws and added to it with a layup. The 'Nooks held the lead until a Joshua West three tied the game at 15, but Crilly responded with a floater, kickstarting a 9-0 run to put Alaska in front 24-15 at the 7:06 mark. Jalai O'Keith and Crilly added two-point jumpers later in the half, and Miller connected on a pair of layups, but the Sharks ended the half on an 8-0 run to cut Alaska's lead to 32-31 entering the halftime break.

Crilly and Miller hit layups early in the second, while Luke connected on a three, but HPU eventually took the lead 45-43 with just over six minutes gone in the second. Crilly would put the Nanooks back in front with a layup later in the half, before a breakaway dunk from Miller gave the Blue and Gold a 53-50 lead. However, the Sharks responded with nine unanswered points, and despite O'Keith pulling the Nanooks to within one after a three and a two, they could not retake the lead, eventually falling by eight.
