LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Nanooks swimming team concluded the UNLV Invite on Wednesday, finishing the meet in seventh place with 38 points.
All five Nanooks who competed in the invite swam in the finals of their respective events during the final day of the meet. Kitti Marton began by swimming in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing in 17:49.00 to take 13th place. McKenzie Fazio made the D Final of the 100-yard freestyle, where she led her finals heat with a 51.96 and placed 25th. Dorka Dancsok also led her C Final heat in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:20.82. That time was over three seconds in front of the next finisher in the heat and secured a 17th-place result.
Cosima Schmiedel posted a 2:06.77 in the B Final of the 200-yard butterfly to finish 13th, and Giorgia Merlo's 2:09.75 in the C Final of the event was good for a 17th-place result.
Fazio and Schmiedel also swam in time trials during the day, with Fazio posting a 1:54.18 in the 200-yard freestyle and Schmiedel recording a 2:33.15 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Nanooks are back in the pool after the New Year with a trip to Hawaii. They face Hawaii and Whitman in a double-dual on Saturday, Jan. 10, in Manoa, Hawaii.
