SCHENECTADY, New York - The Nanooks hockey team (4-10-1) fell to Union (12-5-2, 3-4-1 ECAC) on Saturday, Dec. 13, as the Garnet Chargers swept Alaska in Northeast New York.
How it Happened
Alaska pulled ahead first near the end of the opening period, but two Union goals in the second, and one in the third pulled the Garnet Chargers ahead enough to grab the Saturday win. Alaska would get one back late in the third, but it would not be enough.
Misha Danylov scored his second-career goal with 52.1 seconds left in the first. This came after Union had a goal taken off the board following a successful challenge by the Nanooks. The 1-0 lead stood into the second period. 10:15 into the middle stanza, Union found the equalizer from Luke Buss. 33 seconds later, Union scored again to take a 2-1 lead. Ben Muthersbaugh scored for the lead. After trailing by one heading into the third, the Nanooks deficit would increase to two after Brandon Buhr scored a power-play goal 7:00 into the third, making it 3-1.
William Fleet would pull the Nanooks to within one with 4:38 left in regulation, but the 3-2 score would result in the final.
