BURNABY, B.C. - The Nanooks volleyball team had their 12-match win streak snapped on Thursday night in a GNAC contest at Simon Fraser (12-1, 6-1 GNAC). With the loss, the Nanooks are now 14-2, 5-1 GNAC.
How it Happened
The Red Leafs moved past the Nanooks in four sets on Thursday, taking the opening two sets 25-21 before Alaska got on the board with a third set win. Despite the strong third, momentum stuck with SFU into the fourth and they pushed past the 'Nooks 25-23 to grab the four set victory. In the first, the Nanooks swung .174 with 13 kills and five errors. SFU also posted five errors, but they were a touch more efficient, finishing with 16 kills and a swing percentage of .262.
In the second, SFU's offense only got better. They posted a .324 swing percentage with 14 kills and three errors. The Nanooks, however, hung around, posting 12 kills and six errors in the second. In the third, it all clicked for the Nanooks. Alaska finished of SFU quickly, 25-16, with a .459 swing percentage and 19 kills in the set, paired with just two errors.
Unfortunately, the momentum in the third did not translate to the fourth as Alaska zeroed out with nine kills and nine errors in the fourth. The Nanooks jumped out to a big lead early at 9-2, but SFU slowly chipped away, eventually taking a 17-16 lead on six-straight points. Alaska pushed back, tying the set at 23-23, but SFU capitalized on back-to-back points to put the match away.
