Nanooks Earn Saturday Sweep at Saint Martin's

LACEY, Wash. - The Nanooks volleyball team (18-3, 9-2 GNAC) earned a 3-0 win at the Saint Martin's Saints (11-8, 4-7 GNAC) for their fourth-straight win. 

How it Happened
Alaska had a huge hitting performance in Marcus Pavilion to secure the sweep. In the first, Alaska beat Saint Martin's 25-19 behind a .075 swing percentage, their worst of the night. They also kept the Saints in negatives, forcing them into nine errors and just six kills (-.107). The next two sets saw the Nanooks swing over .350 and grab the win. 

In the second, Alaska had 16 kills and just three errors, posting a .361 swing percentage. They managed to pick up the second set win 25-23 after SMU posted a .265 swing percentage with 13 kills. The third set was all Nanooks. Alaska had 19 kills and just one error, posting a match-high .474 swing percentage while SMU had just seven kills. The Nanooks earned the sweep with a 25-15 set three win. 

Inside the Numbers
  • Outside of blocks and digs, the Nanooks dominated many aspects of Saturday's match. They had the advantage in points 57-32, in kills 46-26, in aces 5-1, and assists 43-24.
  • Mikala Henderson could not be stopped this afternoon. She finished with 17 kills (.333), five digs, and two blocks (one solo, one assist).
  • Cynphany Henderson finished hte night with a game-high 22 assists while adding five digs and kills. Ainsley Smith added 16 assists and six digs. 
  • Presley Engelauf led the Nanooks with three blocks. She added five kills (.357), an assist, and a dig. 
  • Elena Guc was efficient on the attack. She finished with nine kills on 17 attacks (.471) while picking up two blocks and a dig. 
  • The Nanooks' .298 team hitting percentage is the second-highest this season (.320 on 9/4 vs. CSUSM, W 3-0).
What's to Come
The Nanooks will remain on the road for another week. Their next match is Friday, Oct. 31 as they face in-state rivals Alaska Anchorage in a Halloween matchup.
