Nanooks Drop Thursday Evening Contest vs. Vikings

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks dropped their matchup against Western Washington on Thursday evening, falling by a final of 67-37. With the loss, Alaska falls to 5-9, 0-6 GNAC.

How it Happened
Emily Freeman got things going with a triple on the first possession. Miranda Lomax and Anna Nevison followed with two more threes, helping Alaska build a 10-4 lead at the 4:36 mark of the opening quarter. However, six unanswered points saw the Vikings tie the score at 10, and despite a Tristian Martin layup to retake the lead, Alaska surrendered a 5-0 run to end the period and trailed 15-12 after one.

Destiny Reimers scored seven of Alaska's first nine points in the second, with a three-pointer putting Alaska within one at 22-21. Taylor Pilot scored the last four points of the quarter for the 'Nooks on a pair of field goals, including one as time expired, but Alaska entered the halftime break down 31-25. 

Alaska was outscored 36-12 over the final two quarters, with Reimers leading the way with four points in the final 20 minutes. The Nanooks went 5-of-32 from the floor in the second half.

Inside the Numbers

  • Destiny Reimers paced the squad with 12 points on the evening, going 5-of-17 from the floor. She grabbed four rebounds and tallied two steals.
  • Taylor Pilot tied for the team lead in rebounds (five) and assists (two) while posting six points.
  • Amelia Brady went 2-of-3 from the floor, grabbing five boards and swiping three steals.
  • Miranda Lomax posted two assists, tying her with Pilot for the team lead.
  • Alaska shot 25.4% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc during the contest.
  • The Nanooks grabbed 31 rebounds compared to WWU's 45.

The Nanooks are back in the Patty on Saturday with a noon tipoff against the Simon Fraser Red Leafs.
