ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Nanooks men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their seasons in rainy Anchorage this morning at the Seawolf Throwdown. Alaska pulled off the sweep of Alaska Anchorage, winning both races against the Seawolves. The women won their 6k dual meet vs. Alaska Anchorage 26-29, while the men picked up the 27-30 win over the Seawolves in the 8k.
On the women's side, senior runners Kendall Kramer and Rosie Fordham earned the top two spots for the Nanooks, with Kramer leading the way with a 20:42.3 and Fordham finishing with a 20:55.1. UAA's Nell Baker and Alexandra Otto finished third and fourth, respectively, while Tabitha Williams took fifth with a 22:40.2. Lucca Duke finished eighth among Alaska/UAA runners with a 22:58.5 and Teegan Silva wrapped up the points finishes in 10th, finishing with a 23:32.4.
Alaska's Ben Browning took second in the men's race, recording a time of 26:05.6 and finishing behind UAA's John Peckham. Zach Grams finished third for the Seawolves, while Ben Dohlby and Finn Morley took fourth and fifth with times of 26:39.8 and 26:48.8, respectively. Philipp Moosmayer finished seventh among the two squads with a 27:15.36, and Derk Lyford ran a 27:29.1, securing him ninth place and wrapping up the Nanooks point finishes. Blake Hanley rounded out the top 10 with a 27:34.7.
Alaska returns home to face the Seawolves at the UAF Trails on Saturday, September 14, for its Blue/Gold meet. The women's race will start at 10:40 a.m. and the men hit the trail at 11:20 a.m.
