PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its winners for the 2023-24 Academic All-Sports trophy on Monday, with the University of Alaska Fairbanks men's and women's cross country programs earning top-three spots in the conference rankings.
The trophy, presented by Barnes & Noble College, recognizes the conference's top-performing academic teams based on grade point average during each academic year, and the Academic All-Sports trophy is given to the school with the highest cumulative GPA among all sports. The women finished with the second-highest team grade point average in the conference at 3.78, while the men placed first among all GNAC men's cross country squads with a 3.52 GPA.
The Alaska Nanook men's cross country team kept its strong academic tradition alive, claiming the award for the fourth time in the last five years and 11th time overall - more than any other GNAC men's cross country program. The Nanooks women's cross country team, who came .02 points from finishing first in the conference, have claimed top honors six times in program history, giving Alaska a total of 17 individual team first-place finishes. Saint Martin's claimed the overall title and the men's sports title, and earned a share of the women's sports title in conjunction with Central Washington University.
