FAIRBANKS - Head Coach Brian Scott and the Alaska Nanooks Women's Volleyball program have announced the hiring of Cate Atkins (Whiting during her time as a student-athlete) as Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. Atkins returns to the Nanooks after playing for Alaska from 2017-2021.

"We are so grateful to have Cate Atkins back and working with our program," said Coach Scott on Atkins' return. "Cate was always a great student of the game and very passionate in how she played. We look forward to having her inspire our athletes with those same values and elevating our level of play."

Atkins played in 445 sets across 122 matches in her five seasons as a setter for the Alaska Nanooks. She was a 3x team captain and 3x GNAC First-Team selection while placing herself in the top 10 among all Alaska women's volleyball players in various statistical categories.

At Alaska, Atkins recorded the second-most career assists in program history with 3,798. She had three top-10 all-time finishes in single-season assists - her 978 assists in 2018 were good for ninth, her 1,030 assists the following year placed her seventh, and the 1,084 assists she tallied in 2021 put her at the fourth spot in program history. Atkins finished 2018 with a .273 attack percentage, good for tenth in program history, while her .261 career attack percentage was the seventh-highest among Nanook players. Finally, her 1,177 career digs were good for sixth in Alaska's record books.

After her playing career, Atkins worked as a graduate assistant on the Nanook women's volleyball coaching staff during the 2022 season.
