FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swim team was named a 2024 CSCAA Scholar All-America Team following their academic success in the Spring 2024 semester.
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) proudly announces the selection of 722 teams from 417 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2024 semester. These teams, representing a total of 17,162 student-athletes, were chosen based on their outstanding academic performance during the specified semester.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development. To qualify for this prestigious recognition, teams had to earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2024 semester. Of the selected teams, an impressive 563 achieved a GPA of 3.30 or above.
"I'm proud of how much the team has developed and how many things we have accomplished in my two seasons with Nanooks Swimming." Said Nanooks head coach Ksenia Gromova, "We are going to keep striving for excellence in academics and athletics to produce more Scholar All-Americans." The 'Nooks were selected following a team GPA of 3.53 in the Spring 2024 semester. Their 3.53 GPA in the second semester gave them a 2023-24 team GPA of 3.42. Alongside their academic success, the Nanooks sent their first athlete to the NCAA Swim Championships since 2019-20 and had them compete for the first time since 2018-19. Charlotte Fletcher-Stables qualified for the 100-yard backstroke (55.17) before finishing 29th. As a team, they also saw 11 top-10 all-time individual times posted and one top-10 all-time relay finish.
Alongside the individual success, the Nanooks finished seventh place at the 2024 PCSC Championships, took second at the Logger Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., and grabbed a pair of dual-meet wins, sweeping Westmont on Jan. 12-13.
