SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Nanooks hockey team grabbed a shutout win at Augustana on Saturday, March 2.
Lassi Lehti picked up his second shutout of the season to improve to 15-14-3.
The loss drops the Vikings to 12-18-4.
17:34 into the first the Nanooks tallied the game-winner as
T.J. Lloyd found a loose puck near the face-off circle and snapped the shot past AU netminder Zack Rose, making it 1-0 while on the power play.
Kyle Gaffney picked up the lone-assist on the goal as the 'Nooks took the lead. The Nanooks had another power-play opportunity but did not capitalize.Â
Alaska managed to kill AU's lone power play.Â
The next goal did not occur until late in the third on an empty-net goal from
Harrison Israels. 19:25.1 into the third,
Braden Birnie battled along the boards for the puck before finding Israels near the slot for the quick shot to make it 2-0 and close the door on the night. In the 60 minutes, AU outshot the 'Nooks 30-27 but Lehti was a wall in net and did not let a goal in.Â
The 'Nooks ended the night 1-3 on the power play and killed all three Vikings power plays.Â
They return home next Wednesday and Thursday to close out the season against the Stonehill Skyhawks.Â
