FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team fell to 4-8-3 on the year after falling to Augustana in game one of their two-game series.
How it Happened
Augustana struck first, picking up a power-play goal 14:30 into the first period. Nace Langus tallied his first of two on the night. The 1-0 lead stood into the second until
Broten Sabo picked up a power-play goal of his own.
Kyle Gaffney won the draw back to
Brendan Ross who then found Sabo for a one-timer and the equalizer.
With 2:34 remaining in the second, the Vikings picked up the game-winner. Langus picked up the goal, redirecting a Brady Ziemer puck from the blue line. Augustana went on to tally one more goal with 6.2 seconds remaining in the game as Hunter Bischoff scored an empty-netter to make it a 3-1 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Both sides tallied a power-play goal tonight. The Nanooks went 1-2 on the man-advantage and Augustana went 1-3 as the Nanooks killed two penalties.
- Nicholas Grabko made 25 saves tonight. He stopped nine shots in the first, 11 in the second, and five in the third.
- Peyton Platter won 11 of 14 faceoffs tonight. As a team, the Nanooks won 29 of 49 faceoffs.
- Alaska blocked 13 shots tonight with Kyle Gaffney blocking a team-high three shots. Luke LaMaster was the only other skater with more than one, finishing with two.
- Sabo is now tied with Gaffney for the team lead in goals (4). Sabo also now leads the team in points with nine on four goals and five assists.
