SCHENECTADY, New York - The Nanooks hockey team knocked off the RV/No. 20 Union Garnet Chargers on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-5-2. The 6-4 win was sparked by eight Nanooks scoring a point.
How it Happened
A night after Alaska scored three goals in the final 10 minutes, they opened up with three goals in the opening 10 minutes.
Haden Kruse, in his first-career game, picked up point and goal number one 5:06 into Saturday's game.
Broten Sabo put a shot on goal from the point before Kruse redirected the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Brendan Ross was awarded the secondary assist on the opening goal. It took less than three minutes for Alaska to score again, this time it was
Matt Koethe on the power play. After a
Kyle Gaffney faceoff win, Koethe found a loose puck to the right of the crease and put it home.
Peyton Platter picked up the primary and Ross grabbed the secondary, his second point of the night.
2:51 later, Kruse found the back of the net again. Once again, Sabo put a shot on net and Kruse redirected the puck past Kyle Chauvette of Union. The three goals in 10:54 forced a change in net for Union as Chauvette went out and Lucas Massie came in.
The 3-0 lead stood into the second period until Union scored on a power play 8:12 into the second. This goal kickstarted six second period goals. Nanooks' captain
Braden Birnie got that goal back only three and a half minutes later making it 4-1 11:44 into the second.
Matt Koethe earned the primary and
Caelum Dick tallied the secondary. After another Union goal 1:11 later,
Caelum Dick scored his first-career goal 13:36 into the second, making it 5-2. Platter earned his second point and
Fyodor Nikolayenya picked up his first-career point on an assist.
Alaska's final goal came from
Brendan Ross 14:43 into the middle stanza. He intercepted the puck in the attacking zone and beat Massie in net. Union added two more goals, one more in the second 18:21 in and another 1:30 into the third.
