STATESBORO, Ga. - The Nanooks rifle team wrapped up their road trip going 2-0. Following their win at The Citadel on Thursday, Alaska grabbed a win over Georgia Southern on Friday morning.
The 4738-4715 final score improved the Nanooks to 5-1, 3-1 PRC. Alaska outshot GSU 2356-2335 in the smallbore discipline, and 2382-2380 in air rifle.
"Today was a solid effort for the team." said head coach
Will Anti. "I was really proud both days of the fight they put up. Neither match started particularly well, but they turned them into respectable performances. That's the sign of a resilient team. They can take a tough day and turn it into average or a little better than average. We haven't had a really easy effortless performance this semester. It's been a lot of grinding and scrapping out decent scores; while that's tiring, it is nice to know we have that gear."
In the overall standings, the Nanooks claimed the top three spots with Sára Karasová taking the top spot with an aggregate score of 1185-87x.
Cecelia Ossi followed in second with an 1184-91x and
Rachael Charles posted an 1184-88x for a third-place finish.
Amanda Pettersen followed in fifth with an aggregate of 1182-83x,
Elli Spencer took seventh with an 1181-85x,
Lucie Kissenberger took eighth with an 1181-78x and
Teagan Perkowski fired an 1175-76x for a 10th-place finish.
Karasová started her day off with a strong showing in smallbore, posting a discipline high of 591-39x. Joining her in the top-three was
Cecelia Ossi, with a 589-41x and second place finish, and
Lucie Kissenberger, firing a 589-34x and finishing third.
Rachael Charles was the final Nanooks shooter in the top-five, taking fifth with a score of 587-38x. Spencer and Pettersen followed in sixth and seventh with scores of 586-37x and 586-35x, respectively. Perkowski fired a 582-35x to take ninth in smallbore.
Matthew Stout and Tobias Bernhoft-Osa were the final two Nanooks on the scorecard taking 12th and 14th with scores of 580-34x and 577-28x. "Sára had another solid smallbore match today." Added Coach Anti. "Rachael had brilliant saves in smallbore both today and yesterday. Despite a poor showing in kneeling, she gathered herself and shot brilliant in prone, standing and air."
In air rifle, GSU's Emme Walrath took first with a high score of 598.
Rachael Charles followed in second, posting a 597-50x.
Amanda Pettersen and
Cecelia Ossi took third and fourth, posting scores of 596-48x and 595-50x.
Elli Spencer took the final spot in the top-five, posting a fifth-place finish with a score of 595-48x. Karasová and Perkowski finished in ninth and 10th in air, posting scores of 594-48x and 593-41x. Kissenberger (12th, 592-44x), Bernhoft-Osa (13th, 591-40x) and Stout (16th, 579-32x) rounded out the list of Nanooks shooters. "Cecelia had a strong comeback in air rifle today as well," said Anti. "She's super close to putting it together in both guns. I'm also really happy for Teagan. He's been a vision of consistency. He shot well in both guns and had a couple season highs in air gun. He's a really smart shooter for being on the younger side. He never gets too far ahead and has a lot of composure out there."
This match concludes the fall schedule for the Nanooks rifle team. They will not be in NCAA action until Jan. 18 when they welcome Akron, Army and Ole Miss. "Overall I'm pleased with the fall." said Anti. "It's been a ton of good work and we look forward to seeing it pay off in the spring season."
