Nanooks Look for Final Postseason Push at Home

The Alaska volleyball team welcomes Simon Fraser and Western Washington as they look for 20 wins and an NCAA Regional berth.

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks volleyball team welcomes the Simon Fraser Red Leafs and Western Washington Vikings to Fairbanks to wrap up the 2024 regular-season.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks grabbed a big win over Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Nov. 16. The 3-0 win not only improved the Nanooks to 19-7, 11-5 GNAC on the year, but gave them a season sweep over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. Rilee White led the way with nine kills, 11 digs and two aces. In the back row, Tessa Onaga posted 21 digs for 7.0/set while dishing three assists. Ainsley Smith led the distribution with 18 assists and Cynphany Henderson posted a double-double with 17 assists and 10 digs. The Nanooks surrendered only nine errors, hitting .291 while UAA hit .122 and the 'Nooks forced them into 19 errors.

  • Alaska is top-50 in the nation in four different team categories. The 2.40 blocks per set is 25th in the nation and third in the GNAC. Regis (Colo.) leads the nation with 2.94/set and Seattle Pacific leads the conference with 2.61.
  • The Nanooks .232 hitting percentage is 44th in NCAA Division II. That too is third in the GNAC.
  • The distribution for the Nanooks has led the GNAC all season. They are first in the conference with 1258 assists. This also puts them 43rd in the nation. 
  • This season the Nanooks have 247.5 team total blocks. That ranks them 20th in the nation and second in the GNAC. Seattle Pacific's 258.0 leads the conference while Regis' 288.0 leads the NCAA DII.
  • Rilee White's serving ability has her in the top-50 for two individual rankings. She is 47th in the NCAA DII for aces per set with 0.50. She is 28th in the nation for total aces with 51. That is also good for second in the GNAC this season. 
  • Ainsley Smith leads the conference with 818 assists this season. Karli Nielson also leads the GNAC in total kills, pacing the way with 342. 
Fight for the Right...to Party! 
As of Nov. 13, the Nanooks are ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division II West Region. As they enter the final week of their regular-season, the Nanooks look to climb into the top-eight to qualify for the 2024 NCAA West Regional Championship.

Chasing Records
Rilee White is chasing the GNAC record for career service aces. She enters the final week of the season with 211 career aces and is in need of three to become the all-time service aces leader. Alongside that, White is 18 kills from 1000 in her career. Earlier this season, White surpassed the 1k mark in career digs and could become the first GNAC player to reach the 1k kill/1k digs/200 aces mark.

Saturday will be the Senior Day celebration; this year, the Nanooks will celebrate Kinley Erickson, Kristina Head, Josie Jansen, Karli Nielson, and Rilee White.
