ANCHORAGE - The Nanooks hockey team dropped game two of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup series with Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night. The 6-1 loss moves the 'Nooks to 4-6-2.
How it Happened
Alaska Anchorage ran out to a 3-0 lead through the opening 40 minutes. In the third, they added three empty-net goals and allowed the Nanooks to deny the shutout with a late third-period goal. Logan Acheson opened up the scoring for UAA, making it 1-0 10:25 into the opening period. Less than three minutes later, Dylan Finlay made it 2-0 Seawolves with a power-play goal.Â
Past the midway point of the second period, Brandon Lajoie made it 3-0 UAA with 8:59 left to play in the second.Â
They later extended the lead to 5-0 on a pair of empty-net goals in the third. Porter Schachle made it 4-0 14:37 into the third before Dylan Contreras made it 5-0 15:12 into the final period. 16:40 into the final period,
Anton Rubtsov intercepted a puck played by UAA's goalie Greg Orosz and off the turnover found the back of the net making it 5-1. Contreras would add one more on another empty-net goal making it a 6-1 final.
Inside the Numbers
- The Nanooks went 0-5 on the power play. Their penalty kill managed to kill five of six opportunities for UAA.
- Kyle Gaffney led the way with 11 faceoff wins in 18 bouts. Chase Dafoe added seven wins in 12 faceoffs.Â
- Nicholas Grabko ended the evening with 14 saves. He made six saves in the first, two in the second and six in the third.Â
- Chase Dafoe and Matt Rickard blocked two shots each. As a team, the Nanooks blocked nine.Â
What's to Come
Alaska will have a weekend off following their games in Anchorage. They will be in action again on Nov. 29-30 at Minnesota.
