GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Alaska was swept by North Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 6. With the loss, the Nanooks fall to 10-9-1 on the season.
Riese Gaber got the Hawks on the board first, 5:17 into the opening period while on the power play. Six and a half minutes later they made it 2-0 11:47 into the first. The Nanooks found their stride four minutes later as
Payton Matsui scored a goal after getting taken down, drawing a penalty and cutting the UND lead in half.
Arvils Bergmanis picked up his first assist of the night. 1:02 later, the Nanooks tied the game at 2-2 on a
Brady Risk goal, scoring on the power play that Matsui drew on his goal. Bergmanis earned his second assist of the night and
Caleb MacDonald picked up his fourth point of the weekend with the secondary assist.Â
The 2-2 tie stood until 6:54 into the second when Cameron Berg netted the winner. This goal led to three more unanswered goals for NoDak, including an empty-net goal with only 1.7 seconds left on the clock, resulting in a 6-2 loss.Â
