BURNABY, B.C. - The Nanooks volleyball team fell to the Simon Fraser Red Leafs on Thursday, Sept. 21. The three-set loss ended the Nanooks four-game winning streak and sent the 'Nooks to 7-9, 0-2 GNAC.
Alaksa was bested by SFU in every team category, except for digs, as the 'Nooks out-dug the Red Leafs 42-39. Past that, the Simon Fraser offense created problems for Alaska as SFU hit .267 over the three sets while Alaska only hit .045. In the first, the Nanooks managed only eight kills while posting nine errors. The opposition tallied 13 kills and surrendered seven kills, knocking-off the 'Nooks 25-17. In the second, the Nanooks pulled themselves from the negative hit percentage but could only manage a 0.0 hit percentage, collecting seven kills and errors while SFU posted 16 kills and four errors. SFU took the second 25-15. The final set saw the Nanooks offense gain some traction as they posted their most efficient offensive set of the night with 10 kills and five errors, but the Red Leafs attack was too much to overcome as they won it and completed the sweep 25-16.
Karli Nielson led the offense for Alaska as the junior finished the night with nine kills on 25 attacks. She ended with an .080 hit percentage while adding three digs.
Cynphany Henderson posted a double-double for Alaska as the setter dished out 13 assists and dug 10 attacks.
The Nanooks head to Bellingham, Wash. for a matchup with the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, Sept. 23. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. AKST in Carver Gymnasium on the WWU campus.
