ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to UAA on Saturday, Feb. 4. They fell behind big at the half and the deficit was too much as they fell 69-39, dropping to 4-15, 1-11 GNAC on the season. 
 
The Seawolves jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the opening quarter. Unfortunately, the 'Nooks offensive woes continued in the second as they only posted five points and trailed at the break 34-12. Out of the break, UAA outscored the 'Nooks 16-11 before grabbing the 30-point win. Emma McKenney gave the 'Nooks an early lead with a three at the 7:47 mark of the first but after a quick UAA response, the deficit continued to grow. Destiny Reimers made it a 7-5 deficit but after that, the Seawolves went on an 11-2 run to end the first quarter. In the second, the deficit hit 22 at the midway point of the quarter before a three with five seconds remaining grew it back to 22 at halftime. 
 
Out of the break, the Nanooks chipped away at the lead, getting it to 19, but UAA hit a pair of threes and shot 40% in the quarter to hold a 27-point lead after 30 minutes of play. In the fourth, Alaska traded buckets to open the quarter but 28 was as close as they could make it before eventually falling by 30. Sam Tolliver was the only Nanook in double-digits, posting 13 points on three made field goals, a pair of threes and five made free throws. She added two rebounds, a block and a steal. McKenney ended the night with nine points.
 
The Nanooks stay on the road next week as they travel to Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 9 and Feb. 11.
