Nanooks Hockey Grabs Big Win Over Arizona State

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team continued their winning ways, winning their ninth game in the last 11 games with a 2-1 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday, Feb. 3. With the win, the Nanooks improved to 14-9-2.

After grabbing an early 1-0 lead in the first, the Nanooks put it away with their second of the night, grabbing a 2-1 win. Arizona State tallied a late goal but the 'Nooks held them off to grab their 14th-win of the season. Payton Matsui got the scoring started 10:23 into the first, tallying his fifth goal of the season off of passes from Chase Dubois and Brayden Nicholetts. With the goal, Matsui took over the team-lead for points, tallying his 17th point of the season, breaking a 16-16 point tie with Jonny Sorenson

Following a scoreless second period, Brayden Nicholetts tallied his second point of the night with a goal from the slot after causing a turnover, finding Brady Risk along the wall and getting the puck back to him for the goal. The goal proved to be the game-winner only 2:17 into the third. Arizona State got one back as Lukas Sillinger scored 7:35 into the third, but Matt Radomsky closed the door multiple times down the stretch following the goal. He ended with 31 saves, stopping 12 in the first, 10 in the second and nine in the third.

The Nanooks and Sun Devils meet again at the Carlson Center tomorrow night at 7:07 p.m.
