Dubois Tallies Third-Period Winner in 3-2 Win Over Long Island

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team moved to 17-10-2 on the season with a 3-2 win over the LIU Sharks on home-ice. The Nanooks tallied two second-period goals and one in the third to put the Sharks away.

The first was all Alaska on offense as the 'Nooks outshot LIU 14-3. Despite outshooting the Sharks, the 'Nooks were kept off the board. The Nanooks lone power-play opportunity in the first was killed nearly halfway through. After the 0-0 first, LIU opened the scoring 2:18 into the second. Josh Zary made it 1-0 Sharks after receiving a drop-off pass from Anthony Vincent. He took the puck near the face-off circle to Matt Radomsky's left but beat the netminder on a quick wrist shot. For over 13 minutes, LIU led, but Markuss Komuls found the equalizer on the break, taking a pass from Harrison Israels and beating LIU keeper Brandon Perrone. This goal came 15:27 into the second and Jonny Sorenson and Israels were credited the assists.

Alaska was not done with less than five to play in the second. Simon Falk tallied the second goal of the period at the 17:39 mark. Sorenson played the puck to Falk on the goal line and after an initial shot, the rebound fell back into Falk's lap and he put the follow-up away for the 2-1 lead, a lead that stood through the second intermission.

42 seconds into the third, the Payton Matsui to Anton Rubtsov to Chase Dubois connection struck on the power-play. Matsui played the puck behind the net to Rubtsov who then found Dubois near the right face-off circle. His one-timer found the back of the net making it a 3-1 lead. The lead stayed at two until 18:55 when Zary struck again for the Sharks, pulling them within one with the extra-attacker on the ice and an empty net. Alaska withstood the final 1:05 to pull out the win and look to continue the momentum into tomorrow's 7:07 p.m. matchup.

Jonny Sorenson ended the night with two points on two assists and Radomsky ended the night with 18 saves in net.
