Three 'Nooks Score in Double-Digits but Alaska Falls to Western Oregon

FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to the Western Oregon University Wolves on Thursday, February 16th in the Patty Center.  The 'Nooks (4-17, 1-13 GNAC) got off to a slow start and in the first quarter that set the tone for the rest of the game. 

WOU took a 16-point lead to start the first quarter, the 'Nooks managed to outscore the Wolves in the second quarter to get within 12-points going into the half.  The Nanooks started out the second quarter with more energy as Jayda Van Dyke picked up her first steal of the game. Alaska went on an eight-point run in the second quarter highlight by three-points from Sam Tolliver. The 'Nooks went on another six-point run with baskets coming from Destiny Reimers, Tolliver, and Van Dyke. Alaska sealed the quarter with a layup to end the first half and score her sixth points of the game. 

Alaska got on the board first two start the second half as Kayla Johnson scored her fourth points of the game with a jumper. Johnson went on to score four of the Nanooks next seven points. A three-pointer by Emma McKenney got the Nooks within 13-points of the Wolves partway through the third quarter. Both teams went on a scoring drought until Reimers knocked down a pair of free throws with under two minutes to play in the third quarter. Reimers collected her 12th points of the game with a layup from Tolliver to close out the quarter for the 'Nooks. 

The Wolves came out strong in the fourth quarter and were able to keep the Nanooks off the board until Reimers found Johnson under the basket for a layup. Alaska went on their third six-point run of the game highlighted by four-point from Johnson. Reimers ended the game with 16-points and a team high. 

The Nanooks are back in action on Saturday, February 18th as the host Saint Martin's University at 1:00 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
