HAYWARD, Calif. - The Nanooks men's basketball team fell to Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Nov. 25, 76-52. With the loss, the 'Nooks fall to 1-5, 0-0 GNAC on the season.
The Pioneers of CSUEB posted a strong shooting night, going 53.33% from the field in the first half. They shot 16-30 from the floor and 3-10 to outscore the Nanooks 37-28 in the first. Alaska shot 10-22 (45.45%) in the first. The Pioneers ran out to an early 23-10 lead in the opening 10:25 of play. After making it a double-digit deficit for Alaska, the Nanooks managed to pull it back to single-digits on several occasions, cutting the Pioneer lead to just seven on several occasions. A Mawich Kachjaani and-one cut was the final time the Nanooks cut the lead to single digits.
Their halftime lead would be nine after hitting two free throws with 21 seconds remaining.
Out of the break, the Pioneers embarked on an 11-0 run to stretch the lead to 20. A Demarcus Hall-Scriven jumper, followed by a Jaycson Bereal Jr dunk, cut the lead to 16. The Nanooks would only get as close as 15, eventually falling 76-52. Paul Johnson led the way with 10 points and three rebounds. He shot 4-7 from the floor and 2-3 from deep. TJ Doman added eight and Tyriq Luke ended with seven points and three rebounds.
The 'Nooks continue on the road against Seattle Pacific on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
