FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball fell to Central Washington on Saturday, Jan. 14. The 'Nooks could not overcome a slow start as CWU grabbed the 73-56 win. With the loss, the Nanooks fell to 4-10, 1-6 GNAC.
The Nanooks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but Central Washington went on a 22-4 run. The Wildcats ended the quarter up, 22-10. Kayla Johnson and Ellen Silva attempted to keep the Nanooks in it in the second, combining for 10 of the 'Nooks 12 second quarter points. The Wildcats would take a 45-22 lead into the half. Out of the break, an 8-4 run, cut the Central Washington lead to under 20, at 50-31. The Wildcats would respond, closing the quarter on a 12-4 run, taking a 62-35 lead to the fourth. The Nanooks continued to fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 21-11 in the fourth, closing the game at 73-56.
The Nanooks were led in scoring by
Kayla Johnson and
Ellen Silva who both surpassed double digits, with 13 and 10 respectively. Silva also added eight rebounds and two blocks.
Destiny Reimers and
Caitlin Pusich each added seven rebounds to go along with six and eight points each.
The Nanooks are back in action on the road Thursday, Jan. 19 when they head to Lacey, Washington to face Saint Martin. Before heading to Oregon to play Western Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 21.
