FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team hits the road for two games at Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings. Their first roadtrip of the 2022 GNAC schedule comes after the 'Nooks opened conference play 1-1.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks are fresh off of their 1-1 weekend at home. They welcomed Western Oregon and Saint Martin's to Fairbanks for their GNAC home-openers. On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Nanooks fell to the Western Oregon Wolves in five sets. After winning the opening set, the Wolves grabbed the second and third. Alaska battled back to win the fourth, forcing a fifth-set, but the Wolves grabbed the five-set win on a 10-15 fifth-set win. The Nanooks were led by
Karli Nielson and
Rilee White; the two both posted 14 kills while
Kristina Head added 10.
Alaska was able to rebound on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Saint Martin's. They used 22 kills from Nielson and 11 from White to win three-straight sets after dropping the opener. Ainsely Smith and
Taylor Overn shared the distribution, combining for 41 assists. Smith posted 24 while Overn added 17 of her own. With the win, the Nanooks sent SMU to 9-2, 0-2 on the season and moved to 11-3, 1-1 GNAC.
Quick Hitters
- Karli Nielson led the Nanooks over the weekend as she averaged 4.0 kills per set. She added 0.56 blocks per set and a .419 hit percentage. She currently sits in eighth-place in the GNAC with 2.78 kills per set. She ranks seventh in Division II with 26 aces.
- Rilee White averaged 2.78 kills, 1.89 digs and 0.78 aces per set over the past two games. She is currently sixth in the GNAC with 2.83 kills per set and leads the GNAC in aces per set. She's averaging 0.67 aces per set, good for 21st in Division II and she currently leads DII with 36 total aces.
- Elizabeth Jackson posted 11 BA against Saint Martin's, giving her 14 total BA's on the week last week. This upped her season total block to 66. She remains the top-blocker in DII as she's first in total blocks.
- Kristina Head is behind in 10th in Division II with 52 total blocks.
- Jessa Long is 10th in the nation in total digs with 229 in her first year with the Nanooks.
- Alaska is looking to rebound against both SPU and MSUB after falling in the last matches against the two.
- Against SPU, the Nanooks fell last season on Oct. 23, 2021 in five sets after winning earlier in the season in four. They are currently 6-4 in their last 10 matchups with the Falcons.
- As for MSUB, the Nanooks also fell in five to the Yellowjackets in their last matchup on Oct. 21, 2021. Before that loss, the Nanooks had won five-straight over MSUB dating back to the 2017 season.
- In their last 10 matchups, the Nanooks and MSUB are 5-5 against each other.
What's to Come
Following this road trip, the Nanooks will return home to Fairbanks on Thursday, Sept. 22. That game will be played at 11:30 a.m. against the Simon Fraser Red Leafs. They'll then welcome the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2:00 p.m. Following the two games, the Nanooks won't play for another full week until Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2:00 p.m. when the Nanooks welcome their in-state rivals, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.
