Box Score 2 HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team finished their time in Honolulu, Hi. with a day-two split. In game one, they knocked off Hawaii Pacific in a straight-set sweep. In their fourth and final game of the challenge, they fell to Chaminade in four sets.

In the night cap, the Nanooks looked for their second-consecutive win over Chaminade, however, the Swords overpowered the 'Nooks late to take the four-set victory, their first of the year and handing the Nanooks their first loss of the season. Alaska came out firing, taking a set-one victory, 25-22 over the Swords, but Chaminade did not allow the 'Nooks to score more than 19 in the last three sets, taking the final three; 14-25, 16-25, 19-25 for the four-set win.
In set one, the Nanooks worked through 12 tie scores and four lead changes to secure the three-point win. The Nanooks outhit the Swords on the side out, 56% to 50% including 14 kills and a .290 hit percentage. Alaska found themselves with an early 7-4 lead before CUH pushed back to take the lead, eventually making it 9-12. A
Kristina Head kick-started the Alaska offense as they turned around and posted five-straight points, making it 14-12. Chaminade made another run of their own, taking the lead back, but the 'Nooks came to play down the stretch of the first. After CUH made it 18-20, the Nanooks scored seven of the final nine points to win it 25-22 as Head put it away with a kill for the set-win.
The final three sets went the way of the Swords. In set two, they pushed ahead to a quick 6-17 lead, spelling the end for the 'Nooks early. They managed to make it 13-22, but that was the closest they would come in the second as Chaminade won it 14-25. The momentum carried to the third where Chaminade quickly held a 2-8 lead. Alaska battled back, gaining some ground and making it 12-16 following an attack-error on Chaminade, but in the blink of an eye, the deficit was quickly seven at 13-20. Again, the 'Nooks climbed back within striking distance at 15-20, but Chaminade scored five of the last six points to take the win, 16-25.
The fourth and final set started back and forth. CUH had early momentum before Alaska tied it at 5-5 on an
Ella Bines kill. The two traded runs until the 13-14 mark when another Chaminade error made it a one-point game. After quickly getting back on track, the Chaminade offense scored five of the next seven points, extending their lead to four at 15-19. Unfortunately, 17-20 was the closest the 'Nooks came on their last push. The Swords pushed ahead with four-straight, making it 17-24, eventually winning it 19-25 and taking the win in four sets.
The Nanooks were led by
Kristina Head with 11 kills on a .346 hit percentage.
Rilee White added 10 of her own while
Ainsley Smith dished out 28 assists.
Taylor Overn assisted on 11 of her own and added seven digs.
Jessa Long led the way in digs with 18, a game-high. The Nanooks are back in action next weekend in Anchorage for the Seawolf Volleyball Invitational.
