FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team ended their 2021-22 season with a blowout of the LIU Sharks. A 5-1 victory cemented the legacies of five seniors;
Colin Doyle,
Gustavs Davis Grigals,
Caleb Hite,
Jordan Muzzillo and
Antti Virtanen wrapped up their senior seasons and careers in the blue and gold Saturday night.
Didrik Henbrant opened the scoring 7:57 into the first period. Filip Fornaa Svensson and
Eriks Zohovs found Henbrant who netted the opening goal. Only one minute later, senior
Colin Doyle netted his final-career goal, making it 2-0 Nanooks.
Simon Falk played the puck to
Arvils Bergmanis and following a shot from the point, Doyle was there to put the loose puck away, extending the Alaska lead. Before the end fo the first, LIU got on the board. While on the power play, the Sharks scored their lone-goal making it 2-1 Nanooks heading to the second.
It did not take long for Henbrant to find the back of the net again, this time 5:56 into the second.
Antti Virtanen found
Roberts Kalkis in the point and after the defensemen's shot, Henbrant was in front to clean up, scoring on the loose puck in front of LIU netminder, Kris Carlson.
The two sides stayed scoreless for the next 18 minutes. 3:16 into the third
Chase Dubois answered with his own power-play goal.
Brady Risk and
Garrett Pyke were awarded assists on the power-play tally that made it 4-1. Risk went on to find the back of the net for the final goal of the night. With 1:31 remaining in the game, Risk went coast-to-coast off of a Henbrant pass and scored on the empty-net making it a final score of 5-1.
11 Nanooks scored a point on the night with Henbrant leading the way with three, two goals and one assist. Risk joined him with a multipoint game of his own, scoring one goal and one assist. Grigals finished the night with 26 saves in net for the Nanooks.
While the regular-season is done, the Nanooks have one more game scheduled, an exhibition at the U.S. National Development U18 team in Plymouth, Michigan on Wednesday, March 9.
