FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks and Director of Athletics, Dr. Brock Anundson, have announced the hiring of Carl McAloose as the Senior Associate Director for External Relations. McAloose will join the Nanooks on Tuesday, March 22.

"We're thrilled to add Carl as our Senior Associate AD for External Relations, as he brings a wealth of knowledge to the athletics team," said Anundson, "His experience all-around within the NCAA, and his proven ability to enhance sponsorships, community engagement, and events, will be a tremendous asset for Nanooks athletics."

McAloose rejoins the Nanooks athletic department after spending March-June 2021 as the Interim Director of Athletics.

Prior to Alaska, McAloose was the Director of Athletics at Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Southwestern College. He also served as the Commissioner of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Associate Commissioner at the Big South Conference, Assistant Athletic Director at Coastal Carolina and West Chester University and as the Sports Information Director at Frostburg State and Guilford College.

During his time at FGCU, McAloose was responsible for building the program from it's inception in 2000. Under McAloose, Florida Gulf Coast made the jump from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I in 2008, making it the fastest university to make the transition. Upon the upward transition, he was responsible for establishing FGCU's Division I conference membership as well as developing a strategic plan to meet the university's mission and goals for the move to DI. As athletics grew, he helped FGCU acquire over $50 million, including a $5 million gift which allowed for the building of Alico Arena, which opened in 2002.

Following his success at Florida Gulf Coast, McAloose was named the Director of Athletics at Florida Southwestern College where he continued to develop and build winning programs. Athletics at Florida Southwestern College were re-established in 2015 after being cut in 1997. He helped produce over $30 million to build SunCoast Credit Union Arena and upgrade City of Palms Park, home of the Florida Southwestern College baseball program. After the first three years of playing again, 75% of teams were ranked in the top-fiver in the country for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), while 100% of the sports were ranked in the top-15 and two teams were #1 in the country. In the 2018-19 season, teams won 89% of their contests, the highest in NJCAA history.

Prior to joining Florida Gulf Coast, McAloose served as the Commissioner of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. During his time as Conference Commissioner, he increased the conference reserve by 500% while increasing the conference budget by 50% through corporate sponsorships.
