STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team wrapped up day one of the RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regional in eighth-place with 122 team points on the first day.

The Nanooks women's team posted 68 points while the men finished with 54. In the Nordic standings, Alaska sits in fourth with the women in second and the men in sixth. The men's team raced in a 10k freestyle and were led by Christopher Kalev, who finished ninth for 22 points. He raced to a time of 29:11.6. Just a few places behind was Mike Ophoff. Ophoff finished in 12th-place with a time of 29:22.9 and 19 points. The final scoring Nanook in the mens race was Lukash Platil. He finished in 29th with a time of 32:23.0 and earned 13 team points. 

Patrick Marbacher rounded out the Alaska racers with a 32nd-place finish and a time of 33:21.5.

On the women's side, they raced a 5k freestyle and were led Mariel Pulles, who is back in the blue and gold following her races at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. She returned and pushed across the line in fifth-place with a time of 15:50.9. She earned the team 29 points. Close up next was Kendall Kramer in seventh-place. She came across the line in 16:01.7 and earned the 'Nooks 25 points. The final scoring racer for the Nanooks was Rya Berrigan who earned 14 points for her 23rd-place finish. She ended the day with a time of 17:49.3.

Sarah Olson and Aila Berrigan rounded out the Nanooks' day with 25th and 27th-place finishes, respectively. Olson posted a time of 18:47.3 while Berrigan finished in 18:52.8.

The Nanooks are back in action tomorrow in a mass start classic race. Both the men and women will race a 10k distance.
