MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Alaska Nanooks cross country teams raced at the 2022 GNAC Championships in Monmouth, Ore. The men's team raced first and battled their way to 285 points, finishing in 10th-place. The women's team raced next and took home fifth-place with 91 points.Â
In the men's 8km race, Western Washington claimed the team championship, winning with a score of 31 while Cole Nash of Alaska Anchorage took home the individual title, running to a winning time of 23:46.20. The Nanooks were led by
Ryan Owens, who finished 59th with a time of 27:42.30. He raced to an average km time of 3:27.8. Just behind Owens, in 61st-place, was
Nolan Earnest. The sophomore from Fairbanks finished in a time of 27:44.00 and earned Alaska 52 points.
Koen Ross was in the middle of the Alaska pack, taking third on the men's team and finishing 67th-overall with a finishing time of 28:15.50.
Josh Baurick and
Jack Cater were the final scoring runners for the Nanooks. Baurick finished the line in 72nd-place, posting a time of 29:36.00 and Cater crossed just behind him in 73rd-place with a time of 29:36.60. Baurick earned the Nanooks 62 points and Cater earned 63, rounding out the scoring for the men's team.
Ben Pilon was the final runner for the Nanooks; he took 76th with a time of 30:41.80.
In the women's 6km, WWU capped off the team championship sweep, winning the GNAC title with 64 points. The Nanooks claimed the individual title and second-place as
Kendall Kramer and
Naomi Bailey finished together. Bailey and Kramer crossed the finish line hand-in-hand as Kramer took the win with a time of 20:37.00 and Bailey took second with an official time of 20:37.10. Kramer became the Nanooks' first individual champion since Pavla Havlova, who won the title in 2004.
Rosie Fordham capped-off the top-five finishes for the Nanooks as the sophomore from Sydney, Australia, hustled to a time of 21:19.20 and fifth-place finish. With their top-10 finish at GNAC's, all were awarded All-GNAC Conference honors and Kramer took home the GNAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year with the first-place finish.Â
Delainey Zock was the fourth Nanook to cross the finish line. She finished in 23rd-place with a time of 22:30.30 and earned the 'Nooks 23 points.
Teegan Silva was the final Alaska racer to finish, taking home 66th-place with a time of 24:38.90 and earned the Nanooks 60 team points.Â
Post Race Interview
The Nanooks now have a two-week break before the NCAA West Regional race in Billings, Mont. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
