PUEBLO, Colo. – The Nanooks women's basketball team fell to CSU-Pueblo on Friday, Nov. 18 in game one of the Al Kaly Classic. With the loss, the Nanooks drop to 0-2, 0-0 on the season.
CSU-Pueblo pulled ahead after the first quarter, taking a 20-14 into the second before the Nanooks strung together a 23-15 second quarter, taking a 37-35 lead into halftime. Out of the break, the Nanooks were outscored by 13 in the third quarter before falling 83-69. In the first quarter, Alaska fell behind early, chasing a 7-3 deficit after the opening two minutes. CSU-Pueblo extended their lead to nine at 14-5. Their nine-point lead stayed before the 'Nooks pushed back to within six at the end of the quarter after an

Emma McKenney free-throw.
In the second, the Thunderwolves' lead hit nine again three minutes in, but the Nanooks' offense got hot going into halftime. They quickly erased the 27-18 deficit, flipping it into a 30-29 lead on a
Taylor Tiulana three-pointer.
Kayla Johnson followed up with a fastbreak bucket, making it a three-point game. With 30 seconds left in the half, Pueblo tied the game at 35-35 before Johnson hit a buzzer-beater with a second left on a pass from
Destiny Reimers.
Alaska held a 37-35 lead after 20 minutes.
Out of the break, the Nanooks held on to a one-point lead before the Thunderwolves quickly went up 14 with 2:27 left in the third. At the 2:22 mark, their lead reached 16. On two free throws from McKenney and Reimers to end the third, the Nanooks managed to cut the deficit to 11 heading into the fourth at 66-55. To start the fourth, Alaska pulled within nine but that was as close as they'd come down the stretch; CSU-Pueblo went on to win the game by 14, winning it 83-69.
Ellen Silva led the way for the Nanooks, posting 17 points on 8-12 shooting, while grabbing nine rebounds, six on the offensive end. She added two steals and one assist.
Destiny Reimers added 13 points and eight rebounds and three assists.
Emma McKenney posted a dozen points in her debut with Alaska.
The 'Nooks play again tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against Colorado Christian.
