ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team fell in four sets to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Saturday, Oct. 29. With the loss, the Nanooks fell to 15-11, 5-9 GNAC.
In the first, the Nanooks used a .381 hit percentage to skate by Alaska Anchorage 25-18. The Nooks posted 11 kills and only three errors, while UAA posted nine kills and eight errors for a .043 hit percentage. In the second, the Seawolves used a .297 hit percentage to take set two, 25-15. The third set went to Alaska Anchorage, 25-20, behind a .125 hit percentage to the 'Nooks .059. In the fourth, the Sea Wolves pulled away to win the set and match, 25-15.Â
In the first, the Nanooks took a team approach, seeing five 'Nooks post two kills. Alaska opened up the game with a 5-1 run, using kills from
Rilee White and
Elizabeth Jackson to jump ahead. The Seawolves fought back, tying it 5-5. An even match ensued for several points, staying tied to 12-12. A
Karli Nielson kill broke the tie, 13-12. Her kill propelled the 'Nooks on a 13-6 run, capped off by two
Elena Guc kills.Â
In the second, the Nanooks opened up the scoring before UAA stormed back to take the lead. The Nanooks fought to cut it to a two-point lead, 13-11. The 'Nooks continued battling with UAA, keeping the set within range, 19-16. The rest of the set went the Seawolves' way, closing the set on a 6-3 run.Â
The third set went to UAA. They jumped out to an early 11-4 lead. The Nanooks made a strong push, pulling within one at 14-13 after an attack error by the Seawolves. A back-and-forth by both teams kept it within one, 21-20. The Seawolves scored four straight from there to end the third set.
The fourth set went the way of the Seawolves. They jumped out to an early 8-1 lead before extending it to 10-3. The Nanooks made a push, pulling within three at 15-12 on a
Kristina Head and
Ella Bines block. UAA pushed their lead again, this time to 6 at 19-13. Alaska managed to string together two more points, but it was not enough as UAA won the set and match, 25-15.
Ella Bines led the offense with 11 kills and a .240 hit percentage. She also added a block.
Rilee White added 7 kills, 4 service aces, and two blocks.
Ainsley Smith had 19 assists and 2 digs.
Taylor Overn chipped in 17 assists, and three digs and
Jessa Long ended the day with 16 digs and three service aces.Â
The Nanooks are back in action next week at home against Central Washington on Thursday, Nov. 3 for Military Appreciation Night and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 5 for Senior Night.
