Hockey Falls to Northern Michigan in Series Finale

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Nanooks hockey team fell to Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 29. They fell 3-2 and dropped to 4-5-1 on the season.

Northern Michigan got the scoring started 5:13 into the first while on the power play. After a Payton Matsui tripping call, the Wildcats' Artem Shlaine converted from the point. Josh Zinger played the puck to Shlaine who beat Nanooks' netminder, Matt Radomsky. The 1-0 lead did not last long. Harrison Israels returned the favor; while on the power-play only 37 seconds later, Israels made it a 1-1 game off of a deflection in front of the Northern Michigan net. After T.J. Lloyd played the puck to Garrett Pyke who put a shot on net.

The 1-1 score stuck through the first intermission until 7:25 into the second. Again, while on the power-play, the Wildcats took the lead back. Josh Zinger made it 2-1 Wildcats as AJ Vanderbeck and Andre Ghantous tallied the assists. NMU added another nearly 10 minutes later as David Keefer posted their third goal and second of the period, growing the lead to two.

Alaska got one back, but unfortunately it came with 1:07 remaining in regulation. Harrison Israels tallied his second of the game as Anton Rubtsov picked up the primary while Garrett Pyke picked up a second assist and point on the night. The 'Nooks ended the night one-for-four on the power play and only killed one of three NMU power plays.

The Nanooks are not in action until Nov. 18-19 when they visit RPI in Troy, N.Y. and Penn State the following week.
