UNIVERSITY PARK, Wash. - The Alaska Nanooks cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals race in University Park, Wash., hosted by Seattle Pacific University. Over 30 teams traveled to the Pacific Northwest for Pre-Nationals and the Nanooks left with a 10th-place finish in the women's race and the men's team finished 27th.
Colorado School of Mines took the win in the men's race, scoring 19 points. Western Washington was the top finishing GNAC school, finishing fourth with 143 points. The Nanooks men's team took 27th earning 785 points.
Koen Ross led the men's team, placing 165th with a time of 27:14.6 and earning 142 points.
Josh Baurick followed behind in 184th with a finishing time of 27:57.9.
Nolan Earnest was the next Nanook to cross the finish line, taking 186th-place, just two behind Baurick. Earnest finished the race with a time of 28:03.2. Just behind Earnest was
Ryan Owens in 187th-place and a time of 28:06.7, only three seconds behind his teammate.Â
Ben Pilon and
Jack Cater were the final Nanooks to finish for the men's team. Pilon took 204th with a finishing time of 29:16.2 and Cater took 210th-place with a 29:51.8 race time.Â
In the women's race, the Nanooks' sophomore,
Naomi Bailey, stole the show. Bailey claimed the win at the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals, defeating the field of 224 finishers from 29 finishing teams. At the first split, Bailey was in fifth-place with a time of 6:32 but by the second split, she was in first-place with an 8:59.3 split and was in first-place. She finished the race in the top-spot, winning it by a full nine seconds. She beat Katie Doucette of Western Colorado, who placed second.Â
Fellow Nanook and sophomore,
Kendall Kramer followed closely behind Bailey. Kramer took home sixth-place with a time of 21:03.40 Kramer was in fifth-place at the first split with a time of 6:32.7 before making her way to third at the second split with a split time of 9:08.2 and a race time of 15.40.9 before pushing across the finish line in sixth.
Rosie Fordham was the final Nanook to cross the line in the top-100. She took home 18th-place with a finishing time of 21:40.90. She found herself in eighth-place at the first split before dropping to 18th for the second split and the final placement.
Delainey Zock and
Teegan Silva were the final finishers for the Nanooks women's cross country team as Zock finished 135th with a time of 23:57.4 and Silva finished in 178th-place with a final time of 25:04.6.
Their 297 team points was third by GNAC teams as Western Washington took eighth-place with 242 points and Simon Fraser finished ninth with 246 points. Colorado School of Mines took the win in the women's race, finishing with 37 points.Â
The Nanooks are now done with their regular-season and will next compete at the GNAC Championships in Monmouth, Ore. on Saturday, Nov. 5.
