ORONO, Maine - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team allowed four unanswered goals to the Maine Black Bears in their series-finale on Saturday, Jan. 8. Maine used those goals to take a 4-2 over Alaska.
The Nanooks struck first, while on the power play in the second, as
Jakob Breault found a rebound off of a
Chase Dubois shot and fired it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. About eight minutes later,
Didrik Henbrant added another, beating Maine's netminder on a one-on-one making it 2-0 Nanooks. Maine quickly cut the Alaska lead in half, only 22 seconds later, using a Ben Poisson goal to make it 2-1 going into the third period.
In the third, it was all Maine. The Black Bears scored three. The first came on the power play only 3:10 into the period, equalizing the game at 2-2. 17:23 into the final period, the Black Bears scored the game-winner as Donavan Villenueve-Houle slotted the puck past Grigals from the slot. They added an empty-net goal with 39 seconds remaining to make the final 4-2.
The Nanooks stay on the road for a series at Minnesota next weekend on Jan. 14-15.
