FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks swimming team fell to the Lions of Loyola Marymount on day one of their two day head-to-head weekend. This loss drops the Nanooks to 4-3, 2-1 PCSC in head-to-head meets.
Day one consisted 11 events. In the opening event, the 400-yard medley relay, the Nanooks took second behind a time of 4:14.10. The medley relay team was made up of
Nella Pashak,
Whitney McArthur,
Sophia Ruppert and
Emma Corby.
Payton Wojciechowicz followed up with the first win on the day for the Nanooks, taking first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:40.89.
Emma Corby followed up the win with a first-place finish of her own. She took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.74.Â
Pashak returned to the pool and swam to a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 25.66.
Shannon McCallum took third in the fifth event of the evening, the 200-yard IM, posting a finals time of 2:21.36.
Sophia Ruppert grabbed a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly while
Kyleigh McArthur took third in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 59.14.
Lainey Lioi cracked the top-three in the 100-yard backstroke, racing to a time of 1:03.41 before Corby swam back to another first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Corby raced to a time of 5:19.44, winning by over 10 seconds.Â
The Nanooks took second in the final two events on the night. In event 10, the 100-yard breaststroke,
Whitney McArthur took second with a time of 1:12.67 before Alaska took second in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. A team of
Emma Corby,
Nella Pashak,
Whitney McArthur and
Lainey Lioi swam to a second-place finish with a time of 3:47.41.Â
These two teams battle once again tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the Patty Center Pool.
