SEATTLE, Wash. - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Thursday, Jan. 27 in Seattle. This loss drops the Nanooks to 1-11, 0-7 GNAC.
Unfortunately a strong fourth quarter was not enough for the Nanooks after fallign behind by 13 at the end of the first, 18 at half and being outscored 14-3 in the third quarter. SPU jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening 10 minutes before the Nanooks'
Savannah Huerta hit a three to pull them back within four at 11-7. SPU continued their run, stretching their lead to 11 at 18-7. Alaska was able to pull it back into single-digits, but the Falcons made it 26-13 after one. Heading into the second, the Nanooks deficit grew to 21 on two separate occassions before they made it 18 with four seconds remaining on a three-pointer from
Savannah Huerta.Â
Alaska only posted three points in the third quarter as SPU took a 29-point lead into the fourth.
Caitlin Pusich hit a three-pointer five and a half minutes into the quarter for the only points. In the fourth, the Nanooks pulled it to within 20 at the end as Reimers posted six points and Huerta added eight in the quarter.Â
Huerta ended the night as the Nanooks high-scorer, scoring 14 points in 20 minutes while shooting 5-11 from the field and 4-8 from deep.
Destiny Reimers was the only other Nanook in double-digits with 11 points. She added seven rebounds and one block and steal.Â
The Nanooks now head to Montana State Billings for two games in Billings on Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30.Â
