Nordic Ski Heads to Sun Valley, Idaho for Montana State Invitational

SUN VALLEY, Idaho – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski team is in Sun Valley, Idaho for the Montana State Invitational.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks Nordic ski team wrapped up their time at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah with a classic sprint. 

In the RMISA standings, the Nanooks had three racers compete. Mike Ophoff was the top-finisher for Alaska, taking seventh-place. He raced a qualifying time of 3:21.37 before racing a time of 4:07.41 in the quarterfinal heat. He would not advance past the quarterfinals. Patrick Marbacher and Max Beiergrohslein raced in the qualifier before not advancing. Marbacher posted a time of 3:36.07 for a finishing place of 19th and Beiergrohslein raced to a time of 3:51.39 for a 26th-place finish. 

On the women's side, four racers finished. Kendall Kramer was the lone Nanook to make it to the quarterfinal. She finished 10th with a qualifiers time of 4:04.76 before posting a quarterfinals time of 5:07.71. Rosie Fordhamwas the next finisher for the Nanooks, taking 14th with a time of 4:18.02. Rya Berrigan finished 17th with a time of 4:21.30 and Aila Berrigan finished 21st with a time of 4:31.43.

  • Alaska Fairbanks finds themselves in fifth-place in the current RMISA regular-season team standings. They've earned 221 points on the year.
  • The men have earned 36 points in the classical category and 54 in the freestyle category.
  • The women have earned 52 points in the classical and 79 in the freestyle.
  • The Alaska men's team currently sits in sixth-place in the seven-team Nordic standings with 90 total points while the women's team currently sits in fourth with 131 points. 
Conditions
Sun Valley, Idaho will have sunshine and occasional clouds over the weekend for the Nanooks. They are looking at a high of 39 on Saturday and a high of 38 on Sunday. Both lows are expected to drop into the high-teens.
 
Looking Ahead
After their trip to Idaho, the Nanooks will have a weekend off before hosting their Alaska Invitational on Feb. 1-2 and 5-6. After that, they'll not race until the NCAA Qualifiers at Steamboat Springs, Colo.
