FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks cross country teams competed against Alaska Anchorage in the annual Blue/Gold Meet on Saturday, August 28 at the UAF Running Trails. The women's team picked up the win over the Seawolves 17-38 while the men fell to UAA, 35-21.
Kendall Kramer,
Rosie Fordham and
Naomi Bailey all impressed in their collegiate debuts, taking places one, two and three. Kramer took first place in her first race, running a time of 18:34 in the 5k race. Fordham pushed right behind, placing second with a time of 18:41 and Bailey followed behind in third with a time of 19:21.
Delainey Zock, another freshman runner for the Nanooks, took fifth place with a time of 21:00, edging out the final 'Nooks runner,
Mariel Pulles, who came in sixth place with a time of 21:10.
Following the women's race, the men took part in a 7k race.
Cole Nash and Jacob Moos of UAA took first and second place home before the Nanooks first men's finishers. Joe Davie's made his collegiate debut and cracked the top three in it, running to a time of 23:23. Just behind by 11 seconds was
Mike Ophoff, bringing home fourth place.
Zephan Ozturgut was the next Nanook to cross the finish line, coming in eighth place with a time of 25:13.
Koen Ross,
Nolan Earnest and
Jack Cater rounded out the Nanooks placers as Ross finished his first race in ninth place with a time of 25:24, Earnest took home 11
th place with a time of 25:56 and Cater grabbed 12
th with a time of 27:13.
The Nanooks are back in action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Alaska Anchorage.
