Full CoSIDA Team Release

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanook volleyball team had two players selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First-team on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Seniors Lahra Weber and Cate Whiting were both awarded with spots on the team.  
 
The 2020-21 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
First on the list for the Nanooks was Lahra Weber, a senior OH from Berlin, Germany, who earned her B.S. in Chemistry (3.95 GPA) this past spring after the Nanooks spring volleyball season. In her career, Weber has tallied 1028 kills for a kills/set average of 2.9. She also has 83 assists to her name, 117 service-aces, 844 digs and 128 total-blocks. In the spring season of 2021, Weber picked up 105 kills, a team-high, and 105 digs, seeing time in all 11 matches and all but one set. After this season, Weber found herself in sole-possession of fourth place in Alaska Nanook kills and just outside of the top-10 in career digs. 
 
The second and final selection for the Nanooks is Cate Whiting, a senior setter from Rapid City, S.D. She recently earned her B.S. in Civil Engineering (3.90 GPA) and was selected as the University Honors Scholar. In Whiting's career, she has tallied 2714 assists for an assists/set average of 8.1, 233 kills for a hit percentage of .245, 105 service-aces, 791 digs and 156 total-blocks. In the spring 2021 season, Whiting tallied 322 assists, 117 digs, 26 kills and 16 total-blocks through 11 matches. She did not miss a set all season, playing in all 43. Whiting has moved into fourth place in career assists and has moved into a tie of seventh place for career attack percentage. 
 
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.
