Nanook Volleyball Bested by Eagles of CUI

IRVINE, Calif. – The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team fell to Concordia-Irvine on Tuesday, March 9. After falling in a four-set match the Nanooks find themselves 1-2 on the season.

The 'Nooks picked up a set-one victory, coming back late to snag the win from the Eagles. They were led by five kills from Zoey Keene and 13 assists by Cate Whiting. After falling behind 16-21, Alaska answered with nine straight points to rally for the win. Rilee White picked up one of her six kills to end the first set, 25-21.

The Eagles found their stride in the second set outhitting the Nanooks 11 kills to eight. The Nanooks also tallied nine attack errors to Concordia's four. CUI jumped out to a quick 4-10 lead and never looked back. Alaska managed to mount up a small comeback, making it 16-20, but CUI responded with three of their own and eventually won the set 17-25.

Set three saw a similar story, CUI jumped out to a quick lead but no comeback was enough for the Nanooks. They pulled within three at 10-13 but the Eagles quickly stretched the lead to 12-18 and eventually took a set-lead of 2-1 with an 18-25 set three win. The fourth and final set was back-and-forth up until a 12-12 tie. After White tied things up, CUI strung together five consecutive points and closed the 'Nooks out. Alaska once again tried to claw back into the game but after making it 15-18, CUI picked up seven of the final eight points.

Lahra Weber led the way with nine kills. AveRee Reynolds added seven and White ended with six. Whiting ended the night with 25 assists and Weber led the digs category with 13.

The Nanooks are back in action on March 19-20 when they host the NNU Nighthawks at the Patty Center.
