Volleyball Swept by UAA; Back in Action Tomorrow

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Nanook volleyball team was swept by the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Friday, Mar. 26 in Anchorage. This loss drops the 'Nooks to 3-3 on the season.

The Seawolves jumped on the Nanooks from the get-go, handing Alaska a 10-25, 17-25 and 21-25 loss in the sweep. Despite turning around the opening-set loss, the Nanooks were not able to get enough going offensively, being outhit 23-38.

The opening set was quick. After pulling ahead early, 4-3, UAA jumped back ahead and extended their lead to 6-14. Two kills by Lahra Weber were the final points for the Nanooks as the Seawolves strung together the final eight points. Set two saw the Nanooks jump out to a 4-0 lead. After Weber tacked on another kill, the Seawolves struck again, tying the game at 6-6. UAA rallied to an 11-20 lead but the Nanooks had one more battle left in them. They strung together five of the final nine points from kills by Karli Nielson, Emily Moorhead and AveRee Reynolds, but it wasn't enough as UAA picked up the win 17-25.

The final set saw Reynolds start off with three quick kills, leading the 'Nooks to a 6-4 lead. Alaska managed to put together small runs, but UAA seemed to answer them all. After putting together a 14-12 lead, the Seawolves quickly made it 14-17 in a matter of minutes. Reynolds and Moorhead pulled it within one at 18-19 but that wasn't enough for Fairbanks as the Seawolves eventually put it away, 21-25, behind a service ace.

The Nanooks were led by AveRee Reynolds with 11 kills, a game-high. She posted a .308 hit percentage. Cate Whiting posted 18 assists in the loss and Dani Dodge led the way in digs for the Nanooks with 11.

The Nanooks and Seawolves battle one more time, tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 27 at the Seawolf Sports Complex at 1:00 p.m. AKT.
