ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team fell to the Hillsdale Chargers on Saturday, Nov. 20 in their final game at UAA. This loss drops Alaska to 1-1, 0-0 GNAC to start the year.
Early offensive-troubles caught up to the Nanooks late after falling behind in the first 23-9. After rebounding in the second quarter and being outscored only 15-18, the Nanooks turned it around in the second-half, outscoring Hillsdale 23-19 and 22-21 in the third and fourth quarters. Unfortunately, it was too-little, too-late.
The Nanooks opened the game shooting 30.77% from the field, while Hillsdale posted a 47.37 FG% in the opening quarter. After that, the momentum shifted. In the second and third quarter, the Chargers posted 35.29% and 29.41% from the field while the 'Nooks found their stroke, shooting 33.33% and 44.44%, pulling within 11 late in the second and 10 late in the fourth. It was not enough for Alaska, however, as they could never drop the deficit into single-digits.
The Nanooks were led by 24 points on 10-24 shooting from
Pearle Green. She knocked-down four three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds. She also assisted on three and picked up a pair of steals. The only other Nanook in double-digits was
Destiny Reimers, who added 11, five assists and three rebounds.
