Rifle Breaks Program-Record for Second Time This Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Alaska Nanooks rifle team continued their historic-start to the season, posting their newest program-record in aggregate. The Nanooks defeated the Citadel 4737-4389. The Nanooks are now 4-0 on the season.

"Today was an exceptional performance from the entire team culminating in a new program record." Said head coach Will Anti, "The team was able to make some adjustments after the match at Georgia Southern that allowed us to clean up a few points here and there. It's always great when we get an opportunity to shoot a few matches back-to-back and take what we learned each day into the next. And even still we were able to walk away from this match with areas that we know can be improved."

Alaska took nine of the top-10 individual finishes, including the top-five finishes. Rylan Kissell took the top-individual spot with an aggregate score of 1187. Just behind with a 1184 was Daniel Enger. Kellen McAferty was the final Nanook to post an 1180 aggregate, shooting a 1183. Gavin Barnick and Sára Karasová took fourth and fifth, both shooting a 1179.

In smallbore, Kissell led the way with a 593. Following behind was Daniel Enger with a 589. Gavin Barnick also added a 589 with McAferty and Karasová in fourth and fifth with a 586 and 585, respectively. In air rifle, McAferty led the way with a 597. Enger followed close behind, again, this time posting a 595 in air. Kissell shot a 594 and Karasová ended the scoring for the Nanooks with a 594.

"There were a lot of highlights today. Kellen had a brilliant air gun performance - his ability to manage his matches in a very methodical way is continuing to improve. Daniel shot well in both guns - his first 40 in each discipline was impressive. Rylan led the team in smallbore. He struggled in standing at Georgia Southern but was able to identify what needed to change from that match and he implemented it today to shoot a really strong standing performance. Gavin has been very consistent in smallbore and is really right on the cusp of breaking into the next level of smallbore shooting. Sara and Marina both showed a lot of growth in air and smallbore respectively. The whole lot put in a great effort today - we're excited about the direction the group is moving." Ended Anti.

The Nanooks and Bulldogs face-off one last time tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Citadel.
